Foxconn(FIT) Leads Moves To Green

1. Our Goals on Implementing and Developing Green Processes
(1) Reduce Environmental Impacts
Minimize environmental risks and impacts from present processes and disposals of wastes.
(2) Strengthen Green Competence of Products
Strengthen green competence of connectors/cables through green technologies.
To remove or restrict lead and other hazardous materials from electrical and electronic equipment, we devote ourselves to developing eco- and environmental-friendly products. With a long-term lead-free research and development to providing our divisions with best technologies to meet the new challenging market conditions .

2. Roadmap of Implementing and Developing Green Processes
There is a long history for use of lead in electronics and electric equipments. To response the requirements from EU directives (WEEE & RoHS) and customers, has been proactive and sure-footed. A task team was formed in 2000 to address the technical issues and study the impact of the bans on Foxconn(FIT) products.
Our roadmap of implementing and developing green processes is divided into 3 phases:

Phase 1 (Jan. 2001 - June 2002): Products are converting for RoHS Compliance
During this phase, we
 a. Established ISO 14000 environment system.
 b. Established inspection equipments for heavy metals
By the end of this phase, products are fully RoHS Compliance.

Phase 2 (July 2002 - June 2005) : Products are Fully RoHS Compliant.
During this phase, all of components are already RoHS compliant. We
 a. Granted Green Partner Certificate
 b. Granted ISO 14000 Certificate
 c. Granted OHSAS 18000 Certificate
 d. Develop technique to minimize tin whisker growth.
By the end of this phase, products are fully "Green" (Lead Free and RoHS Compliance).

Phase 3: Products Are Already Fully "Green" (Lead Free and RoHS Compliance).
During this phase, all of components are already RoHS compliant. We will
 a. Develop Eco-Products to meet the requirements from EU directives - WEEE, RoHS and EuP
 b. Enhance 3R (reuse, recovery and recycling) management of products.
 c. Reduce impact of cost rising.

3. Foxconn(FIT) Leads Moves To Green:
Our Efforts in RoHS Compliance and Lead Free Conversion:
(1) Efforts on Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Compliance:
a. Established A Strict RoHS Specification:
We established a strict specification of environmental hazardous substances since July, 2002 and revise our spec. continuously according to our customers' requirements and international specifications.
b. Established An Effective Control System
We established an effective control system of environmental hazardous substances and continuously upgrade our equipment in lab. for testing of environmental hazardous substances.
c. Formed A Green Supply Chain:
We request our suppliers to provide certification and guarantee their raw materials and components do not contain listed EHS. We connected our customers and suppliers and formed a "Green Supply Chain".
(2) Efforts on developing Pb-free processes and products:
a. Established a set of thresholds to control Pb content on raw materials and products:
According to our customers' requirements and international specifications, we established and update continuously the thresholds to control Pb content in raw materials and products.
b. Established a lead-free test guide to systematically assess our products:
Combining customers' requirements and international specifications, we established a lead-free test guideline to systematically assess our lead-free products.
(3) Develop Technologies To Minimize Whisker Growth:
a. Establish and update tin whisker test methods to systematically qualify all Pb-free product families.
b. Cooperate with major plating suppliers to optimize lead-free plating processes to minimize whisker growth.
c. Implement "Tin Whisker Risk Index" and tin whiskerless process know-how to suppress the risk of whisker growth .
